Rozie Dezigns - Jewelry Line
In 2013, I started a jewelry line inspired by theatre tech. I use real pieces of equipment in some of my items such as brass stage connector pins, washers, fuses, and gels. These accessories are for technicians, designers, and theatre collaborators to express their love of theatre while maintaining their personal style, from backstage, to the booth, to the opening night gala. The shop had a good 5-year run, and after making my 100th sale I decided to close up shop to make time for other hobbies to take shape.

Lighting Workshops With The Kylie Center
|
In a collaborative effort between the Paramount Hudson Valley, Oakside Elementary School, and the Kiley Center of Peekskill, we put together a show from start to finish, teaching kids of all ages about every step of the theatrical process. While one group of students wrote a series of vignettes and dances, another group of students learned all about the backstage side of putting on a show. I facilitated workshops for high schoolers teaching basics of lighting, including cueing, running lights on the fly, and the basics of light & color physics. Our show went over very well, and the students were very proud of their work.
At the end of one of my lessons which focused on the physics aspect of light design, we played the M&M's game. This game explores the concept of white balance, wherein players have to sort M&M's by color under a primary colored light filter (pictures in the slideshow). These kids absolutely rocked it in under 10 minutes and learned a lot about teamwork along the way. They also all got a chance to try their hand at programming an ETC ion when I had them create a light show to "We Are the Champions" by Queen. During our last lesson together, one student stepped up to the plate to program and assistant design the final showcase. Not only did he write all the cues, but he was an excellent board op when it came time for the show. |
Kick The House Lights! - My Tech Blog
I started a blog as a way of transferring notes I took in my tech classes, workshops, and various endeavors over the years, into a digital form I can refer back to whenever I need it. I made it into a blog because I think it's possible that other folks may find my notes useful, too. It's also public in the hopes that someone who stumbles upon it may have some input to clarify things I didn't get right the first time, or who simply want to add on to what I have there. Feel free to go check it out at KicktheHouseLights.blogspot.com
